Vermont Health Care Satisfaction Survey

The Vermont Medical Society, individual practitioners, insurers, the Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration (BISHCA) and the Office of Vermont Health Access (OVHA) have worked together to create a statewide survey to gauge practitioner satisfaction levels with health insurers in Vermont.

 
The survey was fielded from May of 2009 through August 15, 2009. It could be completed online or faxed to BISHCA. There were a total of 254 responses, of which 54 percent were from mental health/substance abuse professionals. 
 
There are several considerations that should be taken into account when reviewing the results:
  1. Small sample size or low response rates can make results hard to interpret, and this issue is compounded when both problems exist simultaneously. The results represent the opinions of the respondents; it cannot be concluded that the opinions of the respondents represent the opinions of all practitioners.
  2. Survey respondents included physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and office managers. Not all questions were relevant to all respondents. For example, office managers didn’t know how to answer clinical questions, and physicians may not have known how to answer payment questions; as a result, many chose the neutral response or did not answer the question.  
  3. Some respondents may not have understood that all State programs were grouped under Green Mountain Care.
